Halfline is a small, independent app for soccer referees. No investors, no account, no servers holding your matches.
Why it exists
A referee's hands are busy and the game doesn't wait. Most refereeing tools were designed for a phone screen on a desk, then squeezed onto a watch. Halfline starts from the wrist: the clock, the score, cards with the right misconduct codes and substitutions all belong there, and the phone stays in the bag until the final whistle.
After the match the work moves to the iPhone, where the incidents recorded on the watch become a minute-by-minute report you can share, along with your heatmap, distance and heart rate.
Who writes here
Ken Grip builds Halfline and writes these notes on refereeing, the Laws of the Game and the tools referees carry.
Halfline is not affiliated with IFAB, FIFA, US Soccer, The FA, Apple or any assignment platform. It is built by one person, and you reach that person directly at hello@halfline.app.
How the writing is kept accurate
- Anything about the Laws of the Game is written from the current IFAB Laws of the Game, which are the official text and always worth reading in full.
- Anything about US refereeing, misconduct codes or match reports points to US Soccer or the relevant state association, because requirements differ by competition.
- Articles carry the date they were published, and the date they were last changed when that differs.
- Nothing here is a substitute for your competition's own rules. Check them before kick-off.
- Found a mistake? Tell us and it gets corrected, with the date updated.
What Halfline does not do
- No account, and no servers that receive your matches — see the Privacy Policy.
- No advertising, no third-party analytics and no tracking, in the app or on this site.
- No claim to replace your judgement on the field, or your competition's official record.
